    Performance Over Time

    The Challenge

Live in the Movent is a lifestyle and ticketing app connecting artists, events, and fans. It entered a market that had seen it all, by 2021, the space was saturated with well-funded ticketing and creator platforms burning through millions on celebrity endorsements and paid advertising. The traditional playbook was clear: raise money, spend on ads, acquire users at any cost.

We had a fraction of those budgets and zero brand recognition. Competing head-to-head on paid acquisition would be suicide. We needed a different approach.

    The Insight

The breakthrough came from understanding a fundamental market dynamic: mid-sized artists were being ignored.

Major platforms chased whale artists with millions of followers. Small artists couldn't break through the noise. But the mid-tier, creators with 5,000-50,000 followers, genuine engagement, and hungry ambition, were underserved and overlooked.

These artists had something more valuable than reach: authentic communities. Their followers actually cared. They engaged. They bought. They shared.

If we could win the mid-tier, we could build something the big platforms couldn't: a network effect driven by genuine creator-fan relationships.

    The Strategy

    Redefining the "Advertising Budget"

Traditional approach: spend €100k on Facebook ads, hope for conversions.

Our approach: give that €100k directly to artists.

We created the Artist Empowerment Program:

    • Commission model: Artists received budget to create exclusive pieces for our platform
    • Creative freedom: No brand guidelines, no restrictions, their art, their vision
    • Revenue share: 85% of all sales went directly to the artist
    • Platform exposure: Featured placement for every participating creator

This wasn't sponsorship. It was investment in the ecosystem.

    Targeting Mid-Sized Artists En Masse

We built a systematic outreach machine:

    Identification Criteria

    • 5,000-50,000 followers across platforms
    • Consistent posting (3+ times weekly)
    • Active engagement (comments, not just likes)
    • Digital-native art style
    • No existing exclusive platform deals

    Outreach Process

    1. Personal DM introducing the opportunity (no templates, every message customized)
    2. 15-minute video call to understand their art and goals
    3. Onboarding package with platform training
    4. Dedicated artist success manager for first 90 days

Conversion Rate: 34% of contacted artists joined the platform

    Building the Network Effect

Each artist brought their community. But we engineered virality beyond natural sharing:

    Referral Program

    • Artists earned 10% of referred artist sales (forever)
    • Collectors earned platform credits for inviting friends
    • Tiered rewards: 5 referrals unlocked premium features

    Guerrilla Marketing Campaigns

We rejected traditional advertising entirely. Instead:

    • Art drops in public spaces: QR codes on street art leading to the platform
    • Pop-up galleries: 48-hour exhibitions in unexpected locations
    • Artist takeovers: Gave artists control of our social accounts
    • Community challenges: Weekly creation prompts with prize pools

    Creator-Led Content

    • Artists documented their creative process on the platform
    • Behind-the-scenes content performed 4x better than polished marketing
    • Authentic stories spread organically through art communities

    The Execution

    Phase 1: Seeding (Months 1-3)

    • Personally contacted 500 artists
    • Onboarded 170 founding creators
    • Funded initial art creation for all participants
    • Zero paid advertising

Phase 2: Network Activation (Months 4-6)

    • Launched referral program
    • Artists began promoting to their audiences
    • First viral moments from unexpected art drops
    • Community grew to 2,500 artists

    Phase 3: Scale (Months 7-12)

    • Systematized artist outreach with dedicated team
    • Expanded to 8,000 artists
    • International expansion to European markets
    • Revenue crossed €500k monthly

    Phase 4: Ecosystem (Year 2)

    • 20,000+ artists on platform
    • Self-sustaining growth through referrals
    • Artist-to-artist collaboration features launched
    • Platform became primary income source for 400+ creators

    Key Tactics

    The Personal Touch at Scale

Even at 20,000 artists, every creator felt personally valued:

    Check-in callWeek 2Address early friction
    Monthly digestMonthlyPlatform updates, earnings summary

    Community Over Competition

We deliberately designed the platform to encourage collaboration:

    • Collab feature: Easy tools for joint art pieces
    • Mentorship matching: Experienced creators paired with newcomers
    • Community galleries: Curated collections from multiple artists
    • Shared success: When one artist won, everyone celebrated

    Guerrilla Tactics That Worked

    The Mystery Drop Campaign

    • Placed 100 QR codes in major cities pointing to free art
    • Each download revealed a clue to the next drop
    • Generated 15,000 new users in one weekend
    • Total cost: €2,000 (printing and travel)

    The Empty Gallery

    • Rented a high-end gallery space for one night
    • Hung empty frames with QR codes
    • Visitors scanned to "see" the digital art on their phones
    • Press coverage valued at €50,000+

    The Artist Swap

    • Paired artists from different countries
    • Each created art representing the other's culture
    • Documentary-style content went viral
    • 3M+ views across platforms

    Key Learnings

    1. Invest in creators, not platforms. Every euro spent on artists generated 5x more value than traditional advertising. Their authentic promotion couldn't be bought.

    2. Mid-tier beats celebrity. 100 artists with 10,000 engaged followers each outperformed one artist with 1,000,000 passive followers. Engagement > reach.

    3. Personal connection doesn't scale, until it does. The early investment in personal relationships created a culture that scaled itself. Artists onboarded the way they were onboarded.

    4. Guerrilla marketing works when it's genuine. Our campaigns worked because they were art, not ads. The medium matched the message.

    5. Community is the product. We didn't build a platform and add community. We built community and wrapped a platform around it.

    The Playbook

For any brand entering a saturated market:

    1. Find the underserved middle. Who's being ignored by the big players?
    2. Redirect advertising to investment. Give value before asking for it.
    3. Build authentic relationships at scale. Personal touch creates culture.
    4. Let your community create your marketing. Authentic voices beat branded content.
    5. Make success shared. When your users win, you win.

The Live in the Movent story proves that in crowded markets, the answer isn't to shout louder. It's to show up differently. When everyone zigs toward paid acquisition, zag toward genuine human connection.

Twenty thousand active recurring users later, we built something no amount of advertising could buy: a community that actually cared.
